Three Ways You Can Learn from Your Mistakes
We all make mistakes. That’s why pencils have erasers!

Many of us tend to be too hard on ourselves when making a mistake, but we should take our errors in stride and use them as an opportunity to learn and grow. Here are a few tips to help you take advantage of your mistakes:

Dig Deep into Your Work

When going over your work, dig deep to find mistakes! Discovering your own mistakes helps you build a better understanding of the material because searching for and identifying your errors forces you into the habit of revisiting your solutions to explore your initial understanding of a concept.

Help Your Peers
At Spirit of Math Schools, co-operation is one element of our balanced approach to learning. Our students learn from each other through group work, and in doing so, you can help your peers identify mistakes and vice-versa. This collaboration helps you to clarify your understanding of concepts and to communicate effectively with your classmates.

Look at Your Marks the Right Way

Remember, marking and grading of assignments isn’t done to “evaluate” your work, but rather point you in the right direction. Your marks are a valuable tool to help you see your progress and what you’ve learned. While some students might focus on not achieving a perfect grade, what’s most important is not their mark, but what they’ve learned and achieved in an assignment. Students should use their marks to motivate them to identify mistakes and areas where there is room for improvement.
