Spirit of Math Student Scores Big in Several Mathematics Contests
Eugene Lee, a Grade 8 student at Spirit of Math’s Richmond Hill campus, has achieved favourable results in a wide range of national and international math contests.

Take a look at some of Eugene’s impressive results, including a pair of first place finishes. WOW!

Canadian Math Kangaroo Contest
Held annually in more than 40 cities across Canada, the Math Kangaroo contest “introduces students in grades 1 to 12 to math challenges in a fun and enjoyable way, thus inspiring their further interest and advancement in mathematics.” In this contest, Eugene achieved a 1st place finish with a perfect score!

Canadian National Math League (CNML)
The 30-minute CNML Grade 5 contest was held on April 21 at various Spirit of Math Schools campuses throughout Canada. The Grades 6, 7, and 8 contests were held on Feb. 24. The 6, 7, and 8 contest consists of 35 problem solving questions with a 30-minute time limit. Eugene placed 8th overall in Canada with a score of 32 out of 35.

University of Waterloo Gauss Contest
Questions in he University of Waterloo Gauss and Pascal contests are based on the math curriculum common in all of Canada’s provinces and territories. With a score of 142 out of 150, Eugene placed in the top 25 percent of all Gauss contest entrants!

Mathematica Centrum
Since 1990, more than 1,000,000 students from across Canada and the United States have competed in this contest, which was held on April 12, 2017 at different Spirit of Math campuses. Students who scored above the national average in this contest will receive a certificate of distinction. With yet another perfect score, Eugene placed first overall in the Mathematic Centrum Lagrange contest.

For students who are passionate about mathematics, contests and competitions are a fun and challenging way for them to prepare, apply themselves, and showcase their knowledge in comparison to their peers on a local, national and/or international level.

In addition to our Spirit of Math Contests for students from Grade 1 to 4, Spirit of Math students participate in a wide range of external math contests, including Caribou, Canadian Open Mathematics Challenge, and many other local, national and international contests.
